Army cadets from the Defense Services Academy (DSA) wait to have the portraits taken in a photo studio in northern Burma (Myanmar).
For almost fifty years, Burma has been under the rule of a harsh military regime whose main priority seems to be to stay in power. At the officers’ academy in the northern hill town of Pyin U Lwin, the military grooms the next generation of leaders to become “The Triumphant Elite of the Future” as a massive English sign in front of the DSA campus proclaims.
Burma’s army is said to be 400.000 men strong. Also, some analyst say that app. half of the state budget goes to the army.
