A body is caught in vegetation on the Pyapon River in the Irrawaddy Delta after Cyclone Nargos struck on May 2, 2008.
The cyclone and storm wave killed close to 140.000 people. In the nearby village of Kan Sake and 1000 out of a 5000 population lost their lives. The damages were so severe and the death toll so high that the villagers could not overcome burying the dead. Instead they pushed them back into the water. In other villages, they would bury the bodies for the first few days, but with decay setting in very fast they soon stopped.
