In the days after the nightly raids on the monasteries, very few monks would come onto the streets. The ones that had not already been arrested were likely to be on the run. Instead, students would take over and try to lead the demonstrations but as the number of police and soldiers in the city were quickly increasing, and the first killings had taken place, fear conquered hope and support dwindled. Soon, the “Saffron Revolution” had been crushed and turned into another failed Burmese revolution.
