Approximately 1900 endangered Indian one-horned rhinos live in Kaziranga National Park, up from just a handful when the park was created in 1905. It is the last remaining viable population—but the concentrations within the park greatly exceed what would naturally occur in an unrestricted wetland landscape. As a result, these rhinos are aggressive, often charging both guards patrolling the park, jeeps and elephant patrols.
