This male rhino bleeds from a recent wound sustained either from a courting session with the departing female in the background or from fighting with a male rival. Kaziranga National Park harbors about three quarters of the world's remaining Indian one-horned rhinos - 1900 of them, 11 per square mile (2.5 square kilometers.) They are normally solitary animals, rarely seen together except a mother and calf - or during mating season. The crowding could lead to more battles and more wounds, which are a frequent sight.
