"Advocate for the Poor"
'You see something that needs to be done, and you go
do it,' said Sister M. Claudia Burke, 78. She founded Catholic Outreach and
runs a Bingo for the emergency outreach agency, seven times a week. Burke has
been a tireless advocate for the poor her 45-years in Flint and also
organized the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. 'Someone said we shouldn't be
involved in controversial issues if we work for an agency. Whoops-a-daisy,
that's the whole reason these agencies are supposed to exist- that when they
see injustices they should do something about it. Who gets hurt if you don't
help the poor? The poor. God's ways are mysterious. You make a vow and watch
what comes,' Burke said.
