"THE CHAIN GANG, POLITICS AND PUNISHMENT"
It’s shortly after six in the morning and the inmates are marched out to the waiting prison bus. Many choose to be chained up because it gives them a temporary way out of being locked up 22 hours out of 24 every day. Brittney Lewis and some of her fellow inmates have ambivalent feelings about being a part of the Sheriff’s political window dressing. Today they will clear out weeds and garbage along one of Phoenix roads.
