Bahardi and Idek Gajah and their families moved to Sumatra from Java as part of the Indonesian government’s transmigration program that gives each family five hectares of land as incentive to move from overpopulated Java. Here, they clear their newly-acquired land in Bukit Alim to plant palm oil. The program has exacerbated the number one problem for tigers – habitat destruction.
