The body of one of three Muslims hacked to death by a mob lays in the morgue of a hospital in Bangui, the capital. They trio were attempting to flee by plane but the flight was full and when they left the airport to return home Christian militias attacked them. Machetes and common farm implements have been commonly used by mobs of people as instruments of war. Thousands have been killed thus far and the International Criminal Court is investigating allegations of murder, rape and the recruiting of child soldiers on both sides. An ineffective contingent of African Union and French forces was unable to quell the violence at its peak and a slow-moving U.N. took months to move in the thousands of troops needed to calm the tensions.
