During Egypt's revolution in February the pyramids were closed for entry since most of the tourists were scared off by the violent demonstrations on Tahrir square. The local shop owners were devastated by the lack of customers and desperate for business. Egypt lost a large part of its tourist income and is still suffering from the economic consequences of revolution.
