"Venice Carneval"
A person wears the white-beaked mask. The white-beaked mask is that of the plague-doctor; the beak echoes a doctor's long breathing apparatus that held a sponge doused in vinegar, thought to hold the plague at bay. Masks have always played a significant role during the carnival in Venice. Some masks cover the entire face, others just the upper half of the face, making it easier for the wearer to eat, drink, or engage in romantic encounters, if one is party to that.
