"Fort Europe"
Migrants from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe live in a no-man's-land called "the Jungle" in Calais. Here they wait for a chance to get to England in the hopes of a better life away from war and poverty, sometimes paying human smugglers large sums of money to get across the English Channel. But "the Jungle" is a harsh and brutal environment, where they struggle to survive lack of food and shelter, as well as constant harassment and nightly raids by the police. *** Afghan migrants queue for food on the outskirts of the French port city of Calais in March 2010. Fleeing war and poverty, constantly harassed by the police, they sleep under trains and in tents in an area called "the Jungle", waiting for a chance to get to England, either via human smugglers or by clinging to the bottom of a truck.
