"Welcome to Europe"

According to Caritas Athens, the Socialist government, elected in October 2009, has promised to revise the existing migration laws in Greece. The Ministry for the Protection of the Citizen now handles issues relating to migration. According to the Dublin convention, the country that takes fingerprints of migrants are also required to process their asylum application. If the immigrants manage to travel on to other European Union countries, those countries are able to send the immigrants back to the country that originally took their fingerprints. Because Greece is the primary entry point to Europe, most immigrants have their fingerprints taken in Greece. An increasing number of European countries have ceased to send the immigrants back because of the dismal humanitarian conditions for immigrants in Greece.
