Because of the development ban, Larry Gordy's parents could not make repairs to their home or their property. The ranch fell into disrepair, and the Gordys left. The family ranch is now crowded with rotting buildings, dirt-caked appliances and rusty car parts. "If it wasn't for the Bennett Freeze, we would have a place to live," said Gordy. "But now we just have a junk pile out here."
