An angry and tearful Cheryl Cook was finally
convinced she had no other option but to be evacuated 13 days after Hurricane
Katrina and broken levees in New Orleans devastated her home. Search and
rescue personnel hoisted her up into an amphibious truck on the corner of St.
Claude and Desire Streets in the Ninth Ward and she left the neighborhood
where she grew up, went to school, raised her children, and loved her
neighbors.
