Melvin Johnson collected his guns from his New
Orleans' Ninth Ward home before being forced to evacuate. Mr. Johnson wanted
to stay in his home despite being surrounded by toxic water from Hurricane
Katrina and flooding from broken levees. When their Desire Street home
flooded with 5 feet of water, he and his girlfriend floated on boards up to
higher ground and squatted in an abandoned home on the corner of St. Claude
and Desire St. for 12 days before being forced to evacuate.
