"I'm not leaving!" Cheryl Cook exclaimed
from the flooded steps of her New Orleans' Ninth Ward home on a street named
Desire.
Summary:
Cheryl Cook and a handful of her friends and
neighbors have decided to stay in their lifelong homes come Hell or high
water. Their homes were damaged and flooded, some destroyed, by Hurricane
Katrina and broken levees, but despite being surrounded by toxic water that
grows darker each day, they're determined and, at times, belligerent about
staying put & staying together in the neighborhood they love. And, why
should they leave, they argue -- they've survived all that Mother Nature has
thrown at them in the past.
