Cheryl Cook refused to leave her home on a street
named Desire where she's lived in New Orleans Lower 9th Ward nearly her
entire life. Despite heavy flooding and the stench from the toxic water
surrounding her home, she grew belligerent with rescue workers and National
Guard troops. She's afraid to be separated from her rottweiler, Trouble, her
two parakeets, Love and Joy, and her ten fish. Repeated attempts to get her
to evacuate have failed even when medics came and urged her to leave for
medical reasons.
