Intisar Ali Hameed and her son, Zaid Asad Jameel, 2, were brought to the United States from Iraq by HeartGift San Antonio for Zaid to have lifesaving surgery to repair a ventricular septal defect and another hole in his heart. They lived in San Antonio, Texas for one month to prepare, have the surgery and recover. They lived with a host family and were embraced by the local Muslim community as well as the donors who made the surgery possible. *** After less than a week in the United States, Intisar Ali Hameed, holds her son, Zaid Asad Jameel, 2, at the home of her host family in Helotes, Texas before checking into CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's hospital on Oct. 27, 2010. Before the surgery to repair a ventricular septal defect and another hole in Zaid's heart, he constantly clung to his mother and cried when she wasn't holding him. HeartGift San Antonio brought Intisar and Zaid from Iraq to the U.S. for the lifesaving surgery. They spent one month in San Antonio to prepare, have and recover from the procedure.
