Haiti Children's Rescue Mission (HCRM) was founded in 2001 by Harvest International, an organization founded by San Antonio resident John Leininger who has been visiting and working in Haiti for over 30 years. Many San Antonio area families were working to adopt children from the orphanage, which cares for around 140 children in Petionville, before the earthquake. Several children, whose adoptions were underway before the earthquake, came to San Antonio last March on Humanitarian Parole while several teenagers have come to Texas on student visas. Several families are still waiting for their adoptions to be approved. Many of the children at HCRM are "economic orphans" who have at least one living parent but they are unable to financially care for them. *** Crystal Frazar, an RN with Angel Staffing, Inc. of San Antonio, Texas, photographs children available for adoption at Haiti Children's Rescue Mission on August, 16, 2010.
