Sandra's son, Fernando, 6,
receives a meager portion of rice, beans and
tortilla while his younger brother, Marco Antonio, 2, crawls in the kitchen.
In November 2003, Texas Child Protective Service seized Sandra's children
after teachers at Fernando's school discovered drugs in the pocket of the
boy's sweater. Unbeknownst to Sandra, someone in her home had stashed drugs
for sale in a pile of Fernando's clothing. Fernando dressed himself and went
to school. Neither he nor Sandra knew about the drugs in his sweater.
