Maria Lugo shields her son Jose, 19, from falling rain as
he makes his way to the family van to be
transported to the Milwaukee Hamilton High prom along with his identical twin
Steven Friday May 21, 2004. Jose was born with his umbilical cord wrapped
around his neck and weighing slightly more than four pounds. 'Jose was born
dead,' Maria says. 'He was not breathing for the longest time.'
