Identical twins Steven and Jose Lugo, 19, were born with
severe cerebral palsy and have never been able to
walk alone. With the love and support of their family, the boys have pledged
to walk across the Milwaukee Hamilton High stage, whether with a walker or a
cane, to receive their high school diplomas on graduation day, June 15, 2004.
The Lugo family moved to Milwaukee from Puerto Rico when the twins were small
to get better medical attention. Each summer the family returns to spend part
of the summer in their native country, including on this day as they sit
along the Atlantic Ocean in Barceloneta Puerto Rico, July 26, 2003, and watch
pelicans fly nearby before the start of the wedding of their sister Maria.
