Refugees. Zahra, 28, and her daughter Maleka, 6 months, sit among the 800 year old ruined minarets where they will sleep for the night. Having just arrived on a truck from Nemroaz, Zahra and her family of five where left in Herat and are homeless. As former refugees from Iran during Taliban rule, the family is trying to make their way to their home village of Ghormach, in Maymana Province, about a two day journey by road. Without money, Zahra doesn't know when they will make it home. Her family is just one of the millions of displaced Afghans trying to return to their villages after years of war and Taliban rule. They first left their home during the fighting between Ismail Khan and Dostum in 1995. On the move since 1995, the spent one-year at a refugee camp in Iran. Two of Zahra son's have died will refugees in Iran one year ago.
