Nasrin, 22, kept in ankle chains, came to the Marastoon Mental Hospital in the Afshar area of Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1995. At the time, Nasrin returned to her home and found most of her family killed by the Taliban. Since that day Nasrin has been committed to the mental hospital. Nasrin's is kept the chains because of her tendency to become violent. In the last five months she has killed two other female inmates. Other than some financial assistance from the ICRC little other funding is available for the twenty women in the only metal hospital in Kabul. Nearly all the women are suffering from the effects of war, especially from the time of the Mujahadeen war in 1992.
