"Liberation"
When serious pigeon racers, like Belgian native Maurice Vanneste of Saint Clair Shores, release pigeons from their carrying baskets it is called a "liberation." Pigeon racers will take healthy competitive birds out for 50-mile training flights about three times a week to build stamina and homing skills.
