"With butterflies and warriors"
DC 4764.45 001 poaching, front carcass detail # I, dol dol, northern kenya-from the series 'with butterflies and warriors'-David Chancellor
- poachers will remove the face of the elephant with highly sharpened axes, the ivory will be removed at a later stage in another location far from the carcass thus allowing them to flee the scene quickly and quietly. Elephants are often shot with poisioned arrows and followed at a distance for several days until dead, or incapacitated, and then the face removed thus avoiding the sound of gunshots which may alert rangers.
