-a conservancy ranger stands guard over the body of a white rhino killed by poachers who fled the scene. Poachers will often leave dead animals in remote locations for several days, covering the carcass from the sight of vultures with tree branches, and return to remove horns and ivory more easily once the animal starts to decay. Rangers will use the presence of vultures to guide them to poached animals.
