"KIKI'S RESCUE"
"I smiled because I was free - I smiled because I was alive." Eight days after a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti's capital city Port-au-Prince, a New York City Search and Rescue Crew, aided by a Virginia Rescue Unit, pulled an uninjured 8 year old Kiki Joachin from the rubble of what was formally his family's home. This iconic picture of Kiki, his beaming smile and outstretched arms, inspired hope amid thousands of other images of misery and despair.
