People who where forced to move by the Zimbabwean government during operation Murambatsvina in 2005 returned to Harare. They squatted a piece of land in the outskirts of the high density area of Beveldear West. With operation Murambatsvina, Zimbabwean leader Mugabe wanted to return people to their rural homes by destroying urban markets and homes, arbitrarily arresting market vendors and locking up street children to clean up a ‘chaotic state of affairs’ as he said. Almost 1 million people where effected by this operation.
