It is estimated that two cities, 11 counties, 116 towns and hundreds of villages had to be completely demolished and flooded due to the construction and operation of the Three Gorges Dam. Kai county, which is about 1,800 years old, is the last holdout against the rising waters. The order for the final demolition and evacuation was given on Nov 2007. I arrived a month later, with just enough time to capture the final days of this ancient city in the heart of China [Kai county, Dec 06 2007].
