The minister of the interior in Guatemala has a press conference in Guatemala City about the police work dealing with the problems of the gangs in the country.
A week before a female member of Salvatrucha had had her throat slit in the women penitentiary, Santa Teresa, in the city. She had helped three gang members, condemned for police murders, to escape. The punishment from the authorities was to move her to Santa Teresa and to place her together with gang members from the rival gang, Dieciocho. The woman survived half a day.
Three days later the revenge came from Salvatrucha. The prison ward, Lucila Martinez, her husband and the guard, were all three shot to death at the same hour, in different parts of the city.
