"Cashing Checks at The Bar" On Thursdays and Fridays, starting at about 4pm,
roughnecks come into the Desert Bar to cash their paychecks. Sometimes the
line leads out of the back door. When their two-week shifts are up, very few
workers stick around: they get their money and head home to work at another
job or see family.
