American Border Patrol members watch a test flight of
a computer-guided drone used to track the movements of groups of illegal
immigrants. The planes, equipped with 4-ounce internal electronic guidance
systems and camera transmitters the size of a thumb, respond when ground
sensors are activated. ABP founder Glenn Spencer owns three drones ranging in
cost from $12,000 to $21,000. Spencer says he can do with his
"birds" for $10 an hour what the Border Patrol does with its
helicopters for $1,000 an hour.
