"AS LONG AS THE SUN SHINES"
On August 20th, 2011, in northern Alberta, Canada, a scarecrow, erected to prevent migratory birds from landing in Oil Sands toxic tailings ponds, stands in an area formerly occupied by Boreal Forest, part of the traditional territory of the Fort McKay First Nation. According to a study by ecologist Dr. Kevin Timoney, approximately 2000 birds die in Oil Sands tailings ponds every year.
