"BEYOND 7 BILLION"

After remaining stable for most of human history, the world's population has exploded over the last two centuries. The boom is not over: The biggest generation in history is just entering its childbearing years. The coming wave will reshape the planet, and the impact will be greatest in the poorest, most unstable countries. By 2050, human population is expected to reach nine billion, exacerbating already tough living situations in many parts of the world. Our collective demand for food and water is testing the planet’s ability to sustain us. What impact will a growing middle class have on the consumption of resources? What control will women have over their own lives? What innovations in farming techniques could produce enough food for everyone? These are some of the questions whose answers will have a significant impact on the future generations that inhabit planet Earth.
