"THE CONFLICT IN GAZA"
For the first time since the conflict began, residents were able to survey the damage to their homes without the fear of the Israeli aircraft that had already caused deaths in their neighborhoods. A truce after eight days of bloody conflict seemed to be holding on Thursday, averting a full-scale Israeli ground invasion of the Gaza Strip without resolving the underlying disputes.
