"There are 17 of us, brothers and sisters, because my mother died when she had 8 children, and my dad married again with the younger sister of my mother, that was the oldest, and had 9 children more. Two of my brothers are living here. Two of them died already, one on a tractor accident a few years ago. One of my brothers left, and it’s been 14 years. I don’t know anything about him, I think he’s in the United States. He’ll be like 56 now, and everytime I go to Santa Cruz I try to find out about him, call him or ask after him. I know he calls sometimes to his friends in the city, but never leaves any number. If I could even chat for a short time, just to know if he’s alright. He had a wife and children, but he left one day. He went to live in Santa Cruz, stayed there for a while working as a lawyer or something like that, and then he left I don’t know where. I think there in the USA he married again, and is now working on a factory or so. He was always a little bit of an outsider."Franz Penner, 48. |
