"JAPAN'S ELDER VICTIMS"
A body of a woman lies under a blanket near the stairs of her destroyed home in Sendai, Japan. Japan's elderly died in exceptionally large numbers as many were alone and too weak to react quickly enough to escape the cascade of tsunami waves that struck the coast on March 11. It was unclear who placed the blanket on the body, though rescuers were in the area looking for survivors and covering and marking the dead as they moved through the destruction.
