Man-made fires burn large pools of oil collected close to where the BP Deepwater Horizon rig sank and the massive spill began. Sea turtles and other marine life were further endangered by the removal method of burning the oil. At the site of the original explosion, work is underway to drill relief wells to stop the flow.
