"I Am Sam: A year of innocence and anguish at Sam Houston High School"

Sam Houston math teacher Lorraine Dominguez, left, does a fist bump with junior Javoi Lawson, 17, during algebra class on Thursday, December, 10, 2009. "She tries to encourage us to work harder but she keeps it fun and she maintains a high energy in the classroom. She tries to keep everybody up instead of being down and making everything just hard," Lawson says of Dominguez who is known for singing "Found a Peanut" to explain the box method for factoring a polynomial. Many of her colleagues credit her with the improved math scores at the school.
