Srinigar woke to the call by the local population to demonstrate against the local police and the Indian security forces after a local boy had gone missing, presumed abducted by police. Large waves of youths advanced towards the police positions ripping out the sides of shops and market stalls to use as weapons and projectiles. The police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Live rounds were also used and later youths would throw a granade into a group of waitng Kashmiri police killing 3 and wounding 7.
