Manual scavenging is daily life for this man belonging to the untouchables minority in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They contribute to Dhaka’s production of public goods by removing garbage. Few get any in return in spite of equal constitutional rights. Recently, the government started demanding licenses from sweepers, so now they even have to pay bribes to keep their poorly paid jobs.
