People walk in flood water near their village in Bihar, India.
Kosi River burst its embankment in Nepal in late August 2008 flooding most of Bihar, one of India’s poorest state. This catastrophe is likely to trigger a sharp increase in the already ongoing mass migration. As the top soil was washed away a huge number of farmers will be forced to leave their infertile lands to seek employment in other regions. Still, the media and people outside India are reluctant to pay attention to such a large scale warning sign of climate change.
