Leprosy is a disease long thought eradicated. While it is in decline globally, the rate of leprosy in Nigeria has increased since 1993. Lepers are often the poorest of the poor and ostracized in their community. In the village of Mendi in Northern Nigeria a small enclave of lepers have been isolated in a section called "New Street."
