Leprosy is a disease long thought eradicated. While
it is in decline globally, the rate of leprosy in Nigeria has increased since
1993. Lepers are often the poorest of the poor and ostracized in their
community. In the village of Mendi in Northern Nigeria a small enclave of
lepers have been isolated in a section called "New Street."
