Under the afternoon sun Racine Correctional Institution
inmate Gerald Foster toils while weeding in the
prison garden. While some inmates were fired from the highly coveted garden
job, Foster made it through the entire growing season and helped harvest
produce. 'It's something that I never experienced before -- you know, coming
out here, working every day, picking, seeing the tomatoes turn. When I first
came out here, this was just still a baby, just like these here,' Foster
says, bending over some late snap beans. 'I've seen them grow.'
