Racine Correctional Institution inmate Toby Van Den Berg
stabs at weeds with a spade in the institution's
garden Friday, Sept. 3, 2004. By the second week in September, the garden had
contributed more than four tons of produce to Racine-area food pantries,
including about 1,800 pounds of tomatoes. Prison officials estimate the garden
will yield about 15,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables for needy families
this year.
