An inmate at the Racine Correctional Institution places
a young pepper plant in the ground at the start of
the gardening season Saturday, June 5, 2004. A wet spring delayed planting
but by the second week in September, the garden had contributed more than
four tons of produce to Racine-area food pantries, including about 1,800
pounds of tomatoes.
