El Mono, a 21-year-old homeless man, smokes crack in
central Guatemala City, Nov. 3, 2003. On November 9, Guatemalans will vote in
the second general election after 36 years of civil war. The next president
will face a myriad of challenges including political and social instability,
high unemployment, rampant crime rates and constant social demands.
